2010 Opportunity Quilt

     To compliment this year’s theme of “Garden Party” the 2010 Opportunity Quilt Committee selected Aie Rossman’s beautiful appliqué quilt entitled “Affairs of the Heart.” Originally designed for 7 ½ ” blocks, the committee enlarged each of the 36 blocks to 12 ½” making this a King size quilt measuring 111” x 111.”
     Each block is unique; created on a black background, the hand appliquéd motifs uses jewel toned batik fabrics, with each block hand embellished with bright yellow hand embroidery. The quilt is finished with a border of hand appliquéd scrolls and scallops and bound with the same tie-dye affect fabric used in the inner borders.
     The quilt was machine quilted by Vonette Sloan, owner of Crafty Cats Quilt Shop in Graceville, Florida. There is outline quilting around each appliqué design throughout the body of the quilt and elegant feathered hearts and scrolls are placed around the border.
