Challenge from Roberta!
Roberta Granville has challenged the Guild to make 200
"pillow-case"-type dresses by he August Guild Meeting.
These dresses will be donated to the little girls in Haiti who have no
clothes. Roberta asks that we "clean out our stashes",
using good quality fabric to make the simple dresses rather than using
pillowcases. Each
should have a pocket. To get a refresher idea of what a
pillowcase dress looks like (stash-made dresses were shown at the July
Guild Meeting), here are a few websites to check out (there are many
more locatable via Search Engine Sites, e.g., Google):

The Guild's Bus Trip to the Jacksonville
Quiltfest
The Jacksonville QuiltFest bus trip will be Saturday, SEPTEMBER 25, 2010. We will meet at 7:30 AM at the back food court entrance to the Tallahassee Mall and will leave at 8:00 AM sharp. Seats are now on
sale for $28 (including show admission). There are only 12 seats left. Don’t get left behind! This year payment must be made at the time of your reservation in order to hold your seat on the bus.
Show and Tell
For our monthly meeting pictures, to help identify who showed what items during our beloved Show-and-Tell sequence, we plan to start a new practice and see how well it works. The plan is,
before the meeting starts, for "Show-ers" to
write down on 3" x 5" cards their name and the name of their
quilt(s). The sign-up location is at the Block of the
Month table . Then, at the start of the meeting, the cards
will be given to the webmaster or whoever is taking the pictures, so she/her can
alphabetize them to more easily match up who was where in line to the pictures taken.
Challenge Quilt
The 2010 Challenge Rules are now available and can be purchased for $5
from Wendy Stone. The show theme this year is “Garden Party.” Your
finished challenge quilt will be due at the September 2010 guild meeting.
2010 Blocks of the Month
| This year's
Project Quilt is entitled "Saturday In The
Garden".
Instead of posting one block per
month, this year, we have all the instructions in one pdf file
that can be saved to your own computer and/or printed. The
file is in black and white -- there are no set colors to be
used, although the picture of the pieced top (at right) may
provide some guidance.

Where to get supplies, long-arm quilting, and sewing machine
repair to support our quilting
People (new quilters, in particular) frequently
ask where to go to get their quilting fabrics, threads, rulers,
etc. The Guild's newsletter and website do not provide such
information, because it could compromise our non-profit status by
being construed as supporting certain "for-profit"
entities. However, there is a companion website that is
independently run that attempts to provide this information as a
service to the quilters in the Tallahassee region. Please refer
to www.tallyquiltingresources.com

Busy Hands
The Sit'n'Stitch
group Frayed Edges volunteered to take on a Guild project, that
of making the "Domestic Violence Awareness Quilt" for the
Department of Corrections.
This is a queen size wall-display type
quilt featuring a large tree with flowing bare branches. The quilt
top will then travel throughout the state of Florida to different
counties for Department of Corrections personnel to add leaves
representing victims of domestic violence. This travel and leaf
pinning adventure will take approximately six months.
When the quilt
top returns to Tallahassee, the leaves will be permanently attached
to the quilt top. Once completed, the quilt will hang in the lobby of the
Department of Corrections.
The Quilt was presented to the DOC
Secretary and various agency staff on March 22nd. See linked
page.
