Newsletters
Our monthly newsletter, Around the Block, informs us of meeting dates, new members, philanthropy projects, and upcoming events such as workshops and quilt shows. Read our most current and past newsletters. The deadline for newsletter submissions is the last Saturday of each month for the next month's edition.
The Library
Located just off the entrance hallway next to the meeting room, we have an excellent selection of books that cover all aspects of quilting. Guild members are invited to suggest new books for purchase by our librarian. Also, members often donate books they have found particularly helpful. The library is a useful resource for everyone, especially new quilters. Watch the website for an inventory of our current publications. Our library opens at 6:30 p.m. on guild meeting nights for check-outs and returns.
Philanthropy
QU members respond to philanthropic community needs in many ways. One of our Sit-n-Stitch groups works on projects for Ronald McDonald House, while another makes quilts for Big Bend Hospice. We have provided fundraising quilts to Capital Area Healthy Start Coalition. We have given to the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital emergency room tote bags for victims of violence. We have made quilts for wounded soldiers and hurricane victims. In 2006, we made over 50 quilts for the TMH neo-natal intensive care unit. These 17 x 24 quilts fit the small incubators and are given to the families when the babies
are ready to go home. Every day individual members quietly stitch love and compassion into quilts that a recipient will embrace with thanks and hope.
Sit-n-Stitch
Since Quilters Unlimited now has over 200 members, these groups provide an opportunity for quilters to become better acquainted and to share knowledge and skills in an informal setting. Sit-n-Stitchers meet on various days of the week and with different frequency. Most meet in a member's home and work on
individual projects, while some meet at a specific location and work on a service project. Members can contact our Sit-n-Stitch coordinator
for more information.
Trips
Show Trips and Shop Hops offer opportunities to expand our quilting horizons, to form and cement friendships, and to increase our fabric stash. QU will have a bus for the Jacksonville, Florida, show in September, 2006. Other possible trips include Nashville, Houston, and shorter trips in Florida and Georgia.
