Make a block, bring it to monthly guild meeting and we’ll draw a name. The person whose name is drawn wins all the blocks for that month. They can choose to keep the blocks to make a quilt, or donate the blocks to support one of QU’s Philanthropic causes.

January
Our January 2020 block of the month is designed to fit into your busy schedule while making use of scraps you no doubt have on hand.
- Begin with a piece of muslin, a very light colored cotton or lightweight interfacing for your foundation square. Cut this to measure 11 inches square.
- Cut strips from those fabrics; strips may vary in width from 1 1/4″ to 2″. You may mix widths in the same block. You may use pink, or blue, or green, or whatever color or combination of colors that you like for this block. Choose fabrics that include a light color as well as darker ones.
- Lay a strip right side up on your foundation square so that it lays diagonally from corner to corner. Make sure it’s long enough to more than cover the foundation from edge to edge. Next, place another strip right side down, aligning its edge to that of the center strip. (Every time you add a strip, make certain it will cover the foundation fabric beneath it.) Sew this strip to the first one and through the foundation square using a 1/4″ seam. Now flip the second strip over (right side up) and finger press or press with a dry iron.
- Continue laying on strips and sewing the same way until you have covered the entire foundation piece. When finished, do not square up the block; their winner can square these up to 10 1/2″ after receiving them.
