City Hall Show – Take Down Day

August 1, 2025 by Quilter

The CITY HALL SHOW has been a beautiful success.

Take down day is August 5th at 9 am and the quilts will be driven to Janet Taylor’s home in PineyZ. You are welcome to stop by for your quilt by arrangement or pick up your quilt at the August 14th meeting. If you need me to hold your quilt for pick up later, please let me know. (Some of you have already done that.)

Thank you to those who participated, either as a quilt entry or an observer/admirer. This was an exceptional show which contributed to the knowledge and appreciation of quilting in the greater Tallahassee community.

Philanthropy News for August

August 1, 2025 by Quilter

Philanthropy is still in need of a chairperson. It is more fun than you might think. For description of position, it is on the QU website, or you can contact Ann Gaber. I am in the QU Directory.

For the time being it is being managed by Ann Gaber, Evelyn Gonzalez and Jeanne Brenner. And greatly appreciated assistance from Karen Skinner, Wendy Adams and Joann Stock. There are others. Please forgive my omissions! And thank you to all who have been working with the Philanthropy quilts! You have been terrific using our new system of signing kits, tops and quilts in and out. It is still new so it is being explained below for those not familiar yet.

At our next meeting please come to our tables to turn in your completed tops and completed “comfort” quilts. If your quilt was made from a kit provided by Jeanne or Evelyn, please log back in with them. You will see signs for the clipboards for signing in or out. They are trying to keep track of the kits. If your quilt is not from that group, you can turn it in to Ann Gaber at the table next to Jeanne’s.

PLEASE REMEMBER: TOPS WITH LOTS OF PIECING ON THE OUTSIDE BORDERS SHOULD BE EDGE-STITCHED TO KEEP THE SEAMS FROM PULLING APART.

Come to us as well to pick up quilts to quilt either on your standard sewing machines or on your long-arm machines. We try to label the quilts which we have cut batting and backing for clearly for these two categories of sewing machines. We can also provide quilts to bind when quilted ones are turned into us. Sometimes they need to be trimmed first. If you do not have any use for the trimmed materials, please turn them into us. We can use them in future kits or for binding.

If you are interested in helping with our franken-batting efforts where we fuse larger leftover pieces from our large batting rolls to pair with our tops, please contact Ann Gaber. Also, if you would like to help create kits for tops made from our donated fabrics, you can contact Ann. I have a notebook of fun smaller quilts (size 40-ish inches by 60-ish inches) we can work from.

Joy,
Ann

Silent Auction: August 21 – September 19

July 4, 2025 by Quilter

We are still looking for items for the Silent Auction. If you are planning on submitting a basket, remember to consider items that would appeal to the general public as several of our “guests” may not be quilters. Of course, sewing and quilt items are always appreciated by our fellow quilters. In addition, we do need more quilts for sale as everyone needs a snuggle with a beautiful and comfortable quilt.

It would be helpful when submitting items, you provide a “starting bid” since you know the time and costs of materials.

The participant who brings in the most money for a single donated item will receive their QU
dues (2026) gratis. The Sit N Stitch group that brings in the most money for a group donation
will receive a $20 gift certificate, given to the contact person named in the directory, to use
at one of your upcoming Sit N Stitch sessions.

You can give Marty your items at any upcoming QU meeting. If you are unable to bring your
item, she is happy to meet up with you to get your donation. You can contact Marty O’Neill, Chair via email or by cell.
