2024 Volunteer of the Year

December 31, 2024 by Quilter

At the December meeting, the 2024 Volunteer of the Year was announced. It came as no surprise that Sue Isaac was the overall Volunteer Extraordinaire!

Susan Thompson, Karen Kunz, Ann Gaber and Kerry Cohen all nominated Sue for her tireless efforts chairing the Kaleidoscope of Color Quilt Show.

A big thank you to Sue, we appreciate you!

Philanthropy Message to Close 2024!

December 31, 2024 by Quilter

The lovely world of QU Philanthropy has brought us an awareness and respect for the needs in our community and places beyond. It has given us friendships and experiences of great joy we hope to continue on with until we all move on. Please review the figures we report for the year of 2024 knowing these numbers are fantastic but there are many more quilts donated directly rather than through us. We are truly overwhelmed at the efforts put forth by our guild to help our neighbors!

A Big Thank You to Our Incredible Philanthropy Volunteers This Holiday Season

November 25, 2024 by Quilter

As the Christmas and holiday seasons envelop us with warmth and joy, we want to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to QU’s incredible volunteers who have labored all year to provide warm quilts for NICU, veterans, Hospice, and the animal shelter. Whether you’ve cut out kits, made quilt tops and quilt sandwiches, long armed or applied binding, or all of these, your generosity and dedication have made a wonderful impact in our community and beyond, especially those hard hit by Hurricane Milton in North Carolina.

At Christmas we’re reminded of the wonderful impact giving, kindness, and selflessness has. Thank you so much for your efforts to support QU Philanthropy this past year. May this festive season bring you as much joy as you’ve brought to others, and may your New Year be filled with peace, love and fulfillment.

In November, we quilted a total of 35 philanthropic quilts:
Sew for Hope 25
NICU 6
Hospice 4

Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays and Happy New Year 2025!

And The 2024 Distinguished Quilter Is…

November 25, 2024 by Quilter

This year there were nominations for two very worthy candidates. The committee consisted of Janet Taylor, Loui Tope and myself. We met over coffee and discussed each candidate at length, and finally decided to present the award to the longest-standing member, one who has been a force in the guild for many years.

As described in the nomination form, this person is an accomplished quilter who continues to take classes to enhance her own knowledge and skills, and generously shares what she has learned by teaching classes for the guild. She has also taught at Georgia Baptist and Toccoa for as many as 150 participants. Her quilts have appeared not only in the guild shows, but also at LeMoyne and Gadsden art centers. On top of her quilting skills, this person has also served the guild in many capacities, including being President twice.

Who is she? If you haven’t guessed yet, she is…..

Powerful
Artistic
Masterful

Dedicated
Original
Fierce
Fearless
Energetic
Knowledgeable

Congratulations, Pam Doffek!

It’s Time to Volunteer for a QU position!

November 15, 2024 by Quilter

Two officer positions are still vacant:

  • President-Elect – Vacant
  • Treasurer – Vacant

If you have been a member for at least one year and would like to volunteer, please contact Kerry Cohen.

The Clipboard of Opportunity still has many open committee chair positions if you would like to volunteer. Brand new members are eligible for these — and serving is a great way to get to know people in the Guild! Detailed information about the positions can be found in “Notebooks” (a guide for what that position entails) available at https://www.quilttallahassee.com/membership/officers-chairpersons-notebooks/.

The following are the open chair positions for 2025 (at time of writing):

  • Annual Quilt Show 2026
  • Opportunity Quilt 2026
  • Philanthropy
  • Gift Shop Coordinator

Remember, QU is all volunteer run, so please consider offering some of your time to the guild.

Thank you!
Kerry Cohen, Nominating Chair
